Basically, anything seed is often discarded, but new research shows that some seeds give great benefits and are healthier consumed than discarded.

Today we explore, the kinda tasteless but oh so refreshing watermelon. The fruit itself is very hydrating as water makes up a large percentage of it. But the seeds are beneficial in the following ways -Great source of Magnesium, Iron, Folate, monounsaturated fats (whether you believe or not, ha!). The kicker is that you have to consume A LOT of the seeds to get full benefits.

I decided to make some watermelon juice for hubs and I. the thing about fruit is this, contrary to popular belief, you should consume fruits BEFORE meals. Let it be the first thing to hit your empty stomach, after good 'ol room temperature water (will explore water in another post); you benefit more from that. Trust me, I'm a doctor :)

So back to the juice, peel, and blend the watermelon, seeds and all. And do not sieve it afterwards. Just drink it, first thing. A serving of fruit 3-4 times a week is part of a balanced diet. Enjoy!

Hi! Two food posts in one day!. It's safe to say I'm trying to put on a little weight (my Ghanaian friends will tease me if I dare say "add weight") and stay healthy as well.

My new obsession is smoothies!!=
Especially since I have this awesome blender my mom gave me, it's old school but so much better than any new one I have tried. You can blend fine or blend it in a way that you will have small juicy chunky surprises :) all up to you. I've tried different fruits but today it's all about the mango! I haven't yet met anyone who does not like this fruit. Some ppl say it causes them to run(in other words, diarrhea...lol) but if you take about a cupfull, you should be fine each time.

Also, cut up the fruit into cubes or slices the night before and put in the freezer. Blend the next day for a chilled smoothie :)

Also courtesy of Conscious Life News, below are several options for the smoothie lover and their benefits.

Hi!

Today I want to write on some tips in making a simple, healthy, tasty salad.

This salad has the following

1. Tomatoes
2. Lettuce
3. Carrots
4. A protein (Eggs or bacon bits or chicken pieces)

Chop them up however you like.
With Lettuce, I just pluck into pieces.
prior to chopping, keep lettuce in salted water, flash carrots with hot water for about 5-10mins (will help soften them, unless you like it super crunchy).
Toss in your protein.

Homemade vinaigrette : Oil+Salt+pepper+vinegar...mix...simple n tasty.
I love Honey mustard, so definitely try that.

As a Doctor, I tell my patients that they must eat well to help in getting better. Eat well even when you are well. Eat healthy always. I will try to add health points with any recipe.

Health point:
Tomatoes and lettuce have Vitamin A (good for the eyes) and Vitamin C (good for skin). Veggies are generally a good source of fiber which help with digestion(eat a good serving everyday to prevent constipation). Red fruits and vegetables contain lycopene which is thought to help reduce the risk of certain health conditions, including prostate cancer.

Not really my patient anymore. But you know how patients will always be your patients even when u change units, hospitals, countries.
28 yrs old. Diagnosis stumped everyone. This is the part of medicine that sucks. Heads of every department involved were called to review and still, no definite diagnosis could be made. Nothing added up. Nothing made sense. It confused the most experienced doctors.
Every time this happens, there is a feeling of what else could have been done. You rehearse every step, every decision, every symptom and at the end, you come up empty. Cos you are not God.
Still this is sad. I'm the type of doctor, I can't help it, I bond with my patients and their families. He was no different. His mom became the smiling, though worried face I saw every time I got to work and every time I was leaving. Yes, she was there, all day, every day. She told me a few days ago, with eyes wide "Doc, this is my only son oh" I said I know, it is well. This only son had nursed her back to health when she had surgery a couple years ago.
You may say it comes with the territory, hospitals come with what they come with. But I can never...and I never want to get used to losing a patient. I'll deal with the hurt if it makes me human. And maybe, just maybe, the memory will shed light on diagnosis of future confusing cases.

Peace n love. Always stay thankful.

God bless

I have loved writing ever since I can remember. That's partly why I started this blog.
But as life happens, we often get carried away by the troubles and schedules of life, and eventually we forget our first love.
Next, we worry. Bout what to write, when to write it and how to write it.
Then we worry bout who will read it, who will appreciate it, who will validate it.
Atleast these happened to me. I was never happy at how I abandoned one of my greatest loves-writing-so unceremoniously.
I was too ashamed to return especially cos everytime I tried to start I was weighed down by guilt and the silent loneliness in the blog.
Many times my sister would say "blog about whatever it is you love, you can't go wrong with being honest, you don't have to go celebrity blogging cos its popular, do you"
And finally, I'm here to do what I love. I hope you will come along with me on this journey cos frankly Its comforting to have friends, albeit cyber friends.
I have no idea what my official first blog post will be as a returnee blogger but I will jump right in once I hit the pencil icon.

Please read and reflect on this life where we should be our brother's keeper...regardless of color. Enjoy.

"Let me just say for the record, I never thought George Zimmerman was a bad man. He’s the kind of neighbor anyone, I in particular, would like to have because I hope someone cares enough about my property to join the neighborhood watch because I sure as hell won't.

However he was negligent in the execution of his duties, which resulted in the death of a young man. This fact is irrefutable. He was warned to stay in his car, chose to ignore those rules and inevitably got himself hurt.

It’s very unfortunate that what should have been a logical discussion of the repercussions for ignoring police instructions, which resulted in the death of a human being, denigrated into practically a race war.

2-degree murder charges should never have been filed. This was purely a manslaughter case. It’s the least anyone would get for killing a human being while driving or while texting.

I have this prayer in my heart for non-black people. May you never know the fear that comes with having a black male child or male relative that you love.

Before I moved to America, I never understood what it meant to be black. I also didn’t have the burden or the generational psychological impact of years of racism a lot of American blacks have today. So I’m not one to cry wolf or shout racism for every infraction.

There is this misconception today that the big black male is someone to be feared. If you all only knew the truth.

When we first moved to America we lived in California, My parents left the country shortly afterwards; my brother and I were 17 and 19 in college together sharing an apartment alone in Hayward, California. No close by relatives. I went to Berkeley he went to San Jose State. As a CS major, there would be nights he would be on campus until 1, 2 am in the morning in the lab.

At least 3 times without fail in a week, he would be stopped by a cop and frisked and asked where he was coming from. And if he asked what was wrong, he was simply told, “oh you fit the description of someone we were looking for”, 3 times a week. At that time my brother who is darker than 6’2 and me obviously fit the description of the stereotypical imposing black male. My older brother can’t fight a girl to save his life.

After the Ahmadou Diallo case in New York, we literarily worked out script which was basically once he saw the cops, make no sudden movements, slowly put your hands up and immediately start saying the following words “ my name is _____, I’m a student at SJSU and I’m coming back from class”. At that time, we had no cell phones and I wouldn’t sleep until he got home.

My younger brother, who also lives in California, an engineer at Intel got car jacked at gun point last year at a gas station. When the cops showed up, they asked the gas station attendant if he saw anything, the cops go back up to him, again my younger brother, black like blue ink, 6 ft tall, the cop asks him “Are you sure you were robbed?” After his car was found, the cops ask him for DNA and finger print evidence to exclude him as a suspect from stealing his own car. He calls me to discuss because obviously he feels there is something odd about that request. And I tell him not to do it. He was told, “ If that is the case, don’t ever call us (the police) again if you’re in trouble”. I tried to get my brother to file a report against the officer. His thought process was 1) they have my license plate number, they will mess with me all the time. 2) I’m not a citizen in this country and I’m black, if anything happens to me, they will believe the cops first.

I narrate these not to discuss racism, because that is a moot point and is sure to get people’s back up. However, maybe I can get you folks as fellow human beings to understand the typical psyche of any black male in America today.

It is primarily fear. The resulting impact is most while try hardest to remain as inconspicuous as possible, and in unfortunate scenarios like Trayvon, its anger and the will simply not die and not have anyone know the real reason why. But he still did anyways.

I’ve only mentioned two and at least those involved cops. I don’t have the space to go into scenarios involving non-cop, non-black males. These scenarios were not unique to my brothers. Even my father has gotten his fair share.

So if a female like me who when walking from a dark building to my car holds my key ready to punch an attacker in the eye with it, Can you imagine what a black male who has at least been harassed a couple of times in your life either by cops or just assholes who just want to mess with you just for laughs, would react?"
I am not into trends cos frankly they don't work for everyone. I'm more of a style person cos you can look beautiful and on point if you develop your own unique style.

Take Kelly Rowland, she is not necessarily considered a trendsetter mainly cos she doesn't invent ridiculous ways to wear a leotard (lol). But she is generally always on point and looks beautiful.

Kelly Rowland is wearing a Wolford
Top, La Perla bra (times have changed, even the bra gets a mention :), Rachel Zoe
pants, YSL shoes and Lorraine
Schwartz Diamond Rings,

The premiere topic is "let the past go" I decided on this topic cos sometimes to learn something new you have got to make space, to open a new page you have got to turn the old page etc.

Do u ever remember things from the past, from time to time? We all do so nothing abnormal there, it becomes an issue when you dwell on it time AND time again. Often the reason you dwell is cos YOU think YOU could have done, said, being something different. Fine. Maybe that could have been the case. But think about it as a lesson in case you face the same experience again, then u can try out ur alternative action or sentence, but I guarantee you, you may likely not like that as well. We as humans are rarely satisfied so chances are we will always question our actions, you can never be 100% right, sure, certain cos YOU AIN'T GOD.

I have a dear friend who finds it quite hard to let go of past hurts, she remembers it word for word, line for line. In contrast I am able to let it go. The reason is every time I look back I actually feel like jumping up n down and shouting with glee because literally I dodged a bullet by facing what happened. I can't be the exception, I charge you to look back and not find a silver lining in ur experiences - not possible.

While it takes time to get over some things, it is very possible. Also don't let whatever happened affect the rest of your life, how you love, who you love, what you want to do in life. I always say (to myself, now to you :)) no one and nothing has the power to make you hate anything. Case in pt, as a medical student, I was so sure I wouldnt be able eat meat once I started anatomy n dissection of cadavers. People I tell you, I got home after that first day, tired and hungry and didn't even realize I was eating (and enjoying) grilled chicken until it was finished. C'est la vie. Life goes on. So you must as well.

Actually letting go is not throwing a party n inviting all the people involved. It is simply removing them from your way and continuing with the exciting journey that is the rest of your life.

Share your tips on moving on from past issues.

Peace. Love. "Fabulousness"

The Bible says your gifts will bring you in to see kings.

Kelvin Okafor is a man who has found his gift. In art. Life like, could be a still photograph. And yet it is pencil and charcoal.

Check out some of his work below and visit his blog to see his process
Interestingly enough, we here in Africa are absorbing more and more of the Western culture n dressing. (This is so similar to white ppl tanning to be darker n black ppl bleaching to be lighter lol)

Anyway back to the actual post.
Over the weekend, Wiz Khalifa n wife, Amber Rose had a baby shower n she looked lovely in her keyboard inspired Jeremy Scott dress.

But to the point of this post, Model Tocarra showed up looking lovely as well in a blouse which on even casual inspection is Ankara or some other African inspired fabric like Woodin (Ghana).

I don't know bout u but African fabric is gorge! It's vibrant n always has its own identity. You can dress it up or down and more ppl should appreciate AND wear it.

I have to give props to AC Milan and the players. No one should stand for racism, sexism or any sort of ism (lol) in 2013. Thumbs up.
The loss is for the audience who paid for the tickets so next time they will learn to be respectful to other races.
Let me say here that everyone should be respectful to other nationalities. I mean who the heck are u to judge anyone. Look in the mirror aight.

Right now she is fighting for her life, on life support. Wow.

We have heard stories like this from many countries. I pray this starts a new phase of women's rights revolution. One that actually sweeps across the world, much like the now known, Arab Spring.

Men. Respect women. Love women like they are your sisters and mothers.

And women. Respect yourselves. Respect eachother. Teach your sons and brothers how to treat women.

Read more about what the Indian Public is calling to happen to the rapists at

Yvonne is in a plunging neckline with the on trend peplum detail while Nadia is in a single strap, draping gown.

Love the red lip on both ladies. Red lipstick is bold and daring, find ur shade n try it.

While the style and cuts are totally different, I have to ask who wore it (black) best?
